The locality of Colfiorito is renowned for the beauty of its natural landscapes and for the uniqueness of its territory. This fraction of Foligno, in fact, is located at 760 meters above sea level, and is the most important town on a vast karst plateau where large meadows, woods, wetlands, and cultivated fields alternate.
The Colfiorito Altopiano (or Plestine plateaus) consist of seven karstic basins, occupied in ancient times by lakes, later drained by the action of man or nature. A unique landscape that since 1995 is protected as a Regional Park and preserves a rich heritage of biodiversity.

The park area includes within its borders the Colfiorito Marsh (palude di Colfiorito), the relief of Mount Orve (926 m), and some semi-flat areas dedicated to the cultivation of renowned typical products.
The Colfiorito Marsh represents the most famous and significant part for its characteristic of being at altitude and for being “one of the best examples of wetland in central Italy and one of the very few in good state of conservation of the Apennine karst-tectonic basins”. Declared of international interest by the Ramsar convention for the characteristics of its peat bog, for the richness of plant species and as an excellent habitat for avifauna, it is definitely a fascinating destination for walking enthusiasts, those who practice trekking, and lovers of naturalistic photography and birdwatching.

History and Archaeology of Colfiorito
The Park of Colfiorito also includes places of cultural and historical interest. The millennial presence of man is well documented, from the ancient hilltop settlements known as “Castellieri”, to the pre-Roman settlements of Mount Orve, to the testimonies of Roman Plestia and the agricultural landscape, and then villages, towers, and medieval castles that well characterize the Umbrian landscapes.

- Admire the blooming of lentils at Castelluccio di Norcia: from May to July, the plain of Castelluccio di Norcia transforms into a spectacle of colors. The lentil fields cultivated at high altitude, in fact, bloom in a myriad of shades from white to pink, to yellow to red, creating a carpet of colors that will leave you open-mouthed. To this are added the blooms of other wild plants like poppies, daffodils, violets, and gentians, an unmissable spectacle.
- Visit the village of Rasiglia: nicknamed the “Umbrian Venice” for the clear water canals that cross the streets of the village, is an enchanted village that is only 15 minutes by car from Hotel Villa Fiorita and deserves a visit also for its small but delightful Chocolate Museum.

- Spend a day at the Menotre Falls: in the Altolina Park is the Menotre valley, a short distance from Foligno.
