Archaeological museum of Colfiorito in Umbria
COLFIORITO ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM (Pg) from 26/05 to 15/09
The new museum structure, significantly expanded in its exhibition equipment, was born from the active collaboration between the Municipality of Foligno and the Superintendency for the Archaeological Heritage of Umbria. The exhibition material was rearranged in August 2001 in Colfiorito, in one of the “Casermette” of the former internment camp, which the Municipality of Foligno renovated and equipped with all safety guarantees for the conservation and use of the works of art. art.
The new, larger headquarters (1,200 m2 of exhibition space spread over three levels) has allowed the expansion of the collection which today displays around 1,400 archaeological finds.
They document the Plestine civilization from its origins to Romanization and testify to the inclusion of Plestia in the broad web of cultural exchanges between Etruria, Magna Graecia and Greece. A territory, moreover, very characterized from an environmental point of view, as it falls within the area of the Colfiorito Regional Park, a protected wetland under the Ramsar Convention and the recent establishment of the Naturalistic Museum of the Colfiorito Park.
